Mining News: Geoscience BC names Dirom president, CEO
Geoscience BC Oct. 10 announced the appointment of Gavin Dirom as President and CEO. During his more than 25 years in the Canadian mineral exploration and mining sector, Dirom has focused on government policies, First Nations and stakeholder relations, as well as environmental management. This includes nearly nine years as the president and CEO of the Association for Mineral Exploration, where he provided executive leadership to AME’s Board of Directors and represented over 400 corporate and 4,000 individual members with interests in mineral exploration and development. “Gavin’s extensive executive experience and passion for public and independent science make him a great fit for the organization at an exciting time,” said Geoscience BC Chairman Mike Cathro. Geoscience BC is an independent, non-profit organization that generates earth science information in collaboration with First Nations, local communities, governments, academia and the resource sector. The earth science resulting from this work enables informed resource management decisions. “It is clear to me that earth science is a foundation for exploration, investment and job creation, as well as helping to address environmental and social concerns of local communities and First Nations,” said Dirom. “It is also important that independent earth science remains accessible to everyone and that it enables informed resource management decisions and investments that create opportunity, reduce conflict and inspire hope.” Geoscience BC enjoys financial support from British Columbia government.
