Oil Patch Bits: North Slope Telecom celebrates 35th anniversary
Thirty-five years ago, Alaska needed a telecommunications contractor that not only understood the conventions of the oil industry but could also effectively engineer, install and configure mission critical communication systems to operate reliably in the face of the world’s harshest environments and most remote locations. William “Bill” Laxson recognized that demand and accepted the challenge by founding North Slope Telecom with the stated intent of serving the developing oilfield communications market.
NSTI quickly became the recognized authority for ruggedized telecommunication systems in the Alaska oil fields; a position they proudly maintain. However, this reputation has not been isolated to the borders of Alaska or to the oilfield industry in general.
With the NSTI brand on the rise, its services have been requested and rendered in many other parts of the country. The company has since expanded into other markets such as mining, government, state and federal, public utilities, emergency response and public safety that demand its unique suite of qualifications.
In 2013, NSTI became a channel partner for Motorola Solutions making them a true “one stop shop” for industrial communications. In less than two years, they have become one of the largest Motorola dealers in the state.
North Slope Telecom Inc. is a contracting and consulting firm specialized in the design, construction and maintenance of telecommunications systems. NSTI’s capabilities include system design and integration of local and wide area networks via satellite, terrestrial microwave, VHF/UHF radio, fiber optics and copper.
