Oil patch bits: API announces 653 tank inspection exam prep class
Petroleum News
ARCTOS Alaska, a division of NORTECH, recently said that Marty Anderson will be giving a class to prepare for the American Petroleum Institute 653 tank inspection certification examination the week of July 8-12 at its offices in Anchorage. If there’s enough interest the company will consider moving to another venue with more space. Cost is $1,380 per person for the course, plus study materials, API and other technical publications.
The API 653 testing window is July 19-Aug. 2 and participants must have applications into API to sit for the test during those dates by May 17. The non-API member fee to sit for the test is $900 for the initial certification, which is good for 3 years. Participants will also need to purchase the API and ASME documents necessary to take the course and the test. More information is on the API inspection certification program portal via the products and services tab on the API website at api.org.
The test is computer based and takes approximately 6.5 hours, consisting of half open-book and half closed-book. Testing sites are available through the University in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau.
For more information or to sign up for the course please contact Kirsten Ballard at 907-245-4230 prior to May 17. Ballard will also make the necessary arrangements if the number of students exceeds the capacity of the office space. Please share this information if you know anyone who might want this valuable training given by the experienced, well-credentialed, and knowledgeable Marty Anderson, ASNT NDT Level III MT, ML, PT, RT, UT, VT, ET IRRSP, AWS SCWI, CRI, CWE, API 570, 577, 653, NACE CIP Level III/senior corrosion tech.
