A. Sheet Metal Inc.

A. Sheet Metal Inc. was founded by Howard J. Letts in 1972.

Q. What do you most want people to know about your company?

A. Our versatility. Throughout the year, Sheet Metal Inc. staffs over twenty Union-affiliated sheet metal workers, plumbers, and service technicians who possess an array of various yet specific certifications and skillsets. Their specialties are custom metal fabrication, HVAC and plumbing systems, planned preventative HVAC maintenance, facility automation and DDC control systems, refrigeration, medical gas systems, repair or replacement of existing systems, air and hydronic balancing, the design and installation of commercial kitchens, and the design and installation of various germicidal ultraviolet lighting systems.

A. 6517 Arctic Spur Rd., Anchorage, AK

Q. What is your company's primary business activity?

A. We are a full-service design-build assist mechanical contractor, specializing in custom metal fabrication, HVAC, plumbing, service & controls.

Q. Are there important projects the company is currently a part of or has done recently?

A. Yes. Recent projects include multiple GCI telecommunication structures, Alaska Regional Hospital's nuclear medicine upgrade, enormous stainless-steel ducting for Hilcorp Alaska LLC, support of Santos' PIKKA project, ConocoPhillips CPF1 air conditioning, Worley's CPF3 HVAC, and The Church of Latter-day Saint's temple.

Q. How many employees does your company have?

A. We employ approximately sixty people throughout any given year.

Q. Describe the equipment your company uses. Are there any new equipment purchases planned?

A. At Sheet Metal Inc., we use industrial type fabrication equipment, such as shears, breaks, plasma tables, and other specialty trade tools and equipment.

Q. Is your company expanding any of its operations or locations?

A. At this time, we don't have plans to expand beyond our current facility, but we have the ability to work statewide in Alaska under any conditions.

Q. Is the company changing any of its services or products?

A. Not at this time, but we are always looking for vertical markets to explore for further growth.

Q. What is your company's main strength or its edge over the competition?

A. Our professionalism, craftsmanship, and responsiveness put us above the rest.

Q. What new markets, clients, or projects did your company attract in the last year?

A. We have recently collaborated with telecommunications integrators. A lot of work is going on in Alaska to bring forth faster telecommunications to all communities.

Q. What is the most challenging work/contract the company has undertaken?

A. The most challenging work we have done is supporting the oil and gas industry. Weather conditions are always a challenge, and the locations are remote.

Q. What are the biggest obstacles to completing work your company undertakes?

A. Finding and recruiting qualified personnel. There has been a higher need for all trades in the last few years.

Q. What do you see as your company's biggest challenge in the next five years?

A. Maintaining our market share.

Q. Does your company have an anniversary or other landmark event coming up?

A. Yes, on August 1st, we held our annual client appreciation party.

Q. What is the average length of time employees work for the company?

A. The majority of our employees are with us for the long haul. The average is 10 + years.

Q. What is your company's safety record? What steps does the company take to ensure a safe work environment?

A. At Sheet Metal Inc., we take safety very seriously and have an excellent safety record. We provide ongoing safety training, hold weekly safety meetings, and review company safety policies and procedures for all onboarding personnel. Using our acquired processes and procedures, we are proud to have one of the lowest experience modification rates in the industry.

Q. Has your company been involved in any community projects or charity events?

A. Yes. We often donate to local charities and are involved in multiple events throughout the year.
