Petroleum News

Coffman Engineers Inc. said Nov. 17 that it is pleased to announce Scott Patterson's achievement on earning his Alaska professional engineering license in mechanical engineering. As a mechanical engineer at Coffman, Patterson provides engineering for all types of energy related facilities. This includes advanced analytics for pipeline integrity testing and in-line inspection, as well as transient flow modeling. Patterson also has experience analyzing hydrogen production systems and cryogenic hydrogen systems. Patterson has worked with various clients to review existing integrity management documents, evaluate data and maintain compliance with federal and state regulations. He was integral to the development of Coffman's corrosion growth rate analysis tools and has successfully implemented these tools for several clients on thousands of miles of pipelines throughout Alaska and the Lower 48 driven by PHMSA requirements. Patterson also has experience in custom machine tool design including engineering analysis, design and destructive bench testing. Patterson joined Coffman in 2012 as an intern while also ski racing in college. "He has put in a lot of effort over the years to develop as an engineer while also being a professional skier. I'm very excited for Scott to obtain his professional license. Scott's abilities as an engineer are just as impressive as they are on the snow and I'm proud to work with him," said mechanical-industrial Principal, Trevor Buron. He can now add "professional engineer" to his long list of career accolades which includes professional cross-country skier and Olympian. In 2017, he was named to the U.S. national cross country ski team. He's a two-time Olympian and finished his 2022 Olympic run with an 8th place finish in the 50km Skate event, marking the U.S. men's best crosscountry finish in nearly 50 years. Patterson also posted impressive results by taking 11th place in the Skiathlon, another men's best for the U.S. at the games. Other skiing accolades include placing 11th in the 50km Classic in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, top-ten finishes at World Cup races and World Championships, four U.S. National championship titles, and more. Patterson is also an accomplished mountain runner and has won the Mount Marathon Race in 2017 and Crow Pass Crossing seven times.
