Second Alkaid Pad out of plan

Petroleum News

On Aug. 29, the Alaska Department of Natural Resources' Division of Oil and Gas sent Pat Galvin, chief commercial officer of Great Bear Pantheon, a letter approving the removal of the Phecda Pad (originally named Alkaid #3) from the approved LONS 22-002 Plan of Operations.

In the approved Plan of Operations, two gravel pads were authorized to be constructed within the Alkaid Unit: Alkaid Pad (originally named Alkaid #2) and Phecda Pad.

Based on the drilling results from the Alkaid-2 well on Alkaid Pad in 2023, Great Bear has determined that they do not want to pursue construction of Phecda at this time. Great Bear instead will pursue construction of the Megrez Pad and testing of Megrez 1 in the Talitha Unit (see related article on page 1 of this issue).

The state lease impacted by this decision to remove the Phecda Pad from the plan is ADL: 391704.

This approval signifies only that the State of Alaska has no objection to the operations outlined in the plan amendment application. It does not constitute certification of any property right or land status claimed by Great Bear nor does it relieve the applicant of responsibility to obtain approvals or permits from other persons or governmental agencies that may also be required.
